We provide quality legal advice through our advice line and online resources.                                                                 

The AIRE Centre provides free legal advice and representation particularly to EEA nationals and their family members on free movement rights. Representing them in front of domestic immigration and social security tribunals on issues around their right to reside, access to benefits, healthcare and housing.

In 2019 we received more than 2000 advice requests from EEA migrants themselves or their advisors and we provided more than 600 people with free legal advice around EU free movement, welfare benefit refusal, access to health care, residence status and documentation.

Whilst we are unable to give advice over the phone, we will take down your query and get back to you by email within five working days. At the AIRE centre we try to help all those who call, but as a small charity our resources are limit. Therefore, if we are not able to help you, we will provide you with contact details for organisations who will be able to.

Lawyers

If you are a lawyer, advisor or organisation seeking for advice for someone you are helping we can provide you with free written legal advice.

We provide most of our advice on a second-tier basis, that is, to other agencies and lawyers who are assisting individuals. We will provide you with free written legal advice to any charity/NGO that is advising an individual for free and to lawyers acting on a pro bono basis or who are receiving legal aid.

For example: a homeless EU migrant might have problems showing that she has a right to reside, but will inevitably have other problems as well; we can provide written advice on the right-to-reside issue, and a homelessness charity can use that advice to advocate on her behalf and show that she meets the other criteria to get housing or homelessness assistance.  

Our fields of expertise:

• EU law on the free movement of persons, including the residence rights of EU migrant citizens and their right to access benefits

• EU asylum law and the European Convention on Human Rights

• Domestic violence, human trafficking, EU minorities race/ethnicity
